By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Explain specific and non-specific parameters of the extract standardization process
  • Explain the theory of CPOTB (How to Make Good Traditional Medicines)
  • Explain the regulations for making standardized herbal medicines dosage forms
  • Design evidence-based formulations of natural product active compounds
This elective course is delivered to support program learning outcomes in knowledge aspect related to standardization of standardized herbal extracts and preparations. The main goal of this course is that students are able to explain, understand and design the process of standardizing extracts to standardized herbal of medicinal plant preparations. The topics covered by this course are secondary metabolites, extraction techniques, efficacy of medicinal plants, regulation and quality requirements of traditional medicines, and traditional medicinal plant preparations.
